Mid 1st c. B.C. – mid 1st c. A.D.

Container for transporting wine produced in Spain, widespread across all the Roman West.

6. Dressel 2/4 amphora

Mid 1st c. B.C. – end 1st c. A.D.

Container for transporting wine produced in Campania, Latium and Etruria, but also in Istria, Apulia, Calabria, Spain, Gaul and possibly also in Britannia. In Egypt it was in use until the 3rd century A.D. Widespread across the known world in Antiquity. Examples are reported in India and Ceylon.

The one on display is of Italic manufacture.
